On Friday, August 25th 2017 we released a significant new update to the app. We've implemented a 'radically' different design and layout as well some new big features. If you were familiar with the older version of the app and confused by the new update, read through the sections below to get your bearings and understand some new workflows and changes.
Here is a overview of all the major changes, click each one for more detail:
-
Product groups can now be created within fulfillment services.
Now you don't have to create a new custom fulfillment service everytime you need a new group of products.
Fulfillment services should only be used when products are truly being fulfilled by a 3rd party or a seperate location.
Product groups can now be used to sub-divide products within fulfillment services.
You'll notice fulfillment services are now tabs at top of the app. Product groups can be added within each fulfillment service.
In the above screenshot, you are looking at 3 product groups within the Manual fulfillment service, now labeled as "My Products". All fulfillment services can have product groups as well.
This solves a problem many people were having with their shipping label software. Many shipping programs only import products that are part of the Manual fulfillment service.
-
Products can now be assigned to product groups and fulfillment services within the app.
No more tedious fulfillment service assignment within the Shopfiy product catalog.
Now just click Manage Products next to any product group, and you can quickly search for and assign or reassign products into their proper groups.
You'll notice you can filter your whole catalog by Vendor, or by Product Type. So you can quickly add all products from a vendor to a product group with the click of a button.
-
*Product groups can now have an unlimited amount of methods added to them.* ( This means you can have methods from different carriers added to the same group without needing to use an additional blended method )
This may have been the most frequent request we had, and the impetus for this entire update.
In the old version of the app you could only add one rule based rate, or one carrier to each product group / zone. And if you wanted more rates you'd need to use the expensive additional method feature, which was intended to add an additional blended rate, not in order to add a few more methods to a product group.
Now, you can add an unlimited amount of rates/methods to each product group / zone.
All the rates you add will show up when just that product group is in an order.
-
Shipping method titles can now be customized for each and every unique shipping method – including rule based rates and carrier rates.
In the old version of the app you could not edit the method titles for carrier rates. So if you choose UPS Ground, the rate title would always be UPS Ground. Rule based rates would only use the title of the blended rate title.
Now, you can customize the title for every individual rate, whether its a carrier rate or a rule based rate.
-
New Subzone feature allows you to create distinct zones using postal code ranges. ( This replaces the postal code override feature available on rule based rates. ) This new feature is only available on Pro plans.
In the old version of the app we had a nifty feature that let you mark-up rule based rates using postal code ranges. This feature was helpful, but limited.
Now, instead of using postal code ranges to simply mark-up a rule, you can now use postal code ranges to create entirely new zones, that can have it own complete unique set of rates attached to them.

Rates will no longer fail when your shop hits its API limit.
In the old version of the app, we reliated on making a few Shopify API calls everytime we returned rates. But, now we are storing all the data we need like shipping zones, fulfillment service, and product info on the app's servers.
With the old implementation, if there was another app hogging the API, like ReCharge which batch processes all orders from a data at once, then our app wouldn't return rates and prevent checkout.
Now, our app doesn't rely on the Shopify API whatsoever to return rates at checkout, which means it will also return rates, even if another app is hogging the API calls at a given moment.
-
Now you have to sync products, fulfillment services, and shipping zones.
In the new version of the app, we are storing a lot more data from your shop instead of relying on API calls at the time of checkout.
This new approach has some great benefits. It allows you to assign products to groups within the app. It makes sure that rates never fail when another app is hogging the Shopfiy API ( see the API limit detail above. ) And it also means that rates are returned more quickly.
However, one of the inevitable side-effects of this approach is that we require data to be synced.
The key things you need to know is:
- Each time you open the app, if you've made updates to your product catalog, we'll prompt you to do a quick sync of products before you make edits in the app.
- When you make changes to shipping zones, you will need to remember to go to Settings > General in the app, and manually force shipping zones to sync before continuing.
- The same goes for syncing fulfillment services. But, only if you are still using manually created fulfillment services. Now you can create and manage fulfillment services from within the app, and so needing to sync fulfillment services will not be too common.

An additional blended method is now included without having to pay an additional $49/month.
We are really sorry about charging $49/month extra for an additional blended rate. We felt like it really complicated the app to such a large extent in the old version, that we only wanted users who really really really needed the feature to activate it.
It turned out, that because we didn't have the feature of allowing unlimited methods per product group, the additional blended rate was the only way to offer more rates for one group of products.
This caused a lot of frustration.
Now that we've done this update, we decided to build more value into the app by not only by offering unlimited methods per group, but by also including an additional blended rate in the stanard version of the app.
So now you have access to this powerful tool to offer more than just one option when you have a order with multiple product groups.

Customs and Duties option added to carrier rates.
Now you can mark-up carrier rates by a percentage of the product price, in order to add customs and duties to a rate.
You can also offer a version of a rate with customs and duties included, and one with them excluded.
You can add the same carrier rate twice, but make unique adjustments to each one, and give each rate it own title.

Overrules are now called Blending Rules, and they are added in Settings > Blended Rates
The "Shipping Methods" and "Overrules" section has now been turned into a Blended Rates section.
Overrules are now called Blending Rules, and can be added within each blended rate.
Locate this section in Settings > Blended Rates.
