Blending rules let you control how blended rates get calculated.
When lots of product groups are in the same order, the total shipping price can sometimes get pretty high. Blending rules can be used to intelligently reduce the shipping price where it makes sense to do so.
You can do things like discount the total blended rate based on the number of product groups, or set certain products groups to ship for free based on conditions of the order.
Blending Rule types
Free Shipping Based On Order Total
When the combined total of products in an order is over $X.XX, make certain Product Groups ship free.
You can use this rule to set a group of products to ship free when the entire order total is above a certain amount. And by shipping free, it means really that $0 will be used for the specified product groups when doing the blended rate calculation.
The app will look at the entire cart total regardless of what product groups are involved to make this calculation.
Free Shipping Based On Partial Order Total
When the combined total of products in Product Groups A, B, and C is over $X.XX, make all of those items ship free.
Instead of using a threshold for the entire order total in the first rule, in this case you determine a total product price of a a subset of products groups that will trigger other product groups to ship for free.
Free Shipping When Product Group is Present
When a customer's cart contains products from Product Group "X", make Product Groups A, B, and C ship for free.
This is rule is commonly used when you have a group of products that are pretty expensive to ship, or ship in a large container that can include other products at a negligible price.
This lets you charge only for that expensive shipping product if it is in an order, and not add on the charges for the other group of products.
Discount Shipping Based On # of Product Groups Present
When the total number of Product Groups in an order is X, discount the final rate by a percentage.
is commonly used when you have a group of products that are pretty expensive to ship, or ship in a large container that can
Use multiple blending rules
You can use multiple blending rules within in each zone.
You you want to offer stepped discounts for instance, 10% off when 2 Products are present, 20% off when 3 product groups are present, etc. Just add multiple blending rules of the same type and you'll see the effect.
